Myofascial release is a gentle and relaxing form of treatment used to equalize muscle tension throughout the entire body. Fascia is a thin tissue surrounding all the organs of the body. When the muscle fibers are injured, the fibers and the surrounding fascia become short and tight. This uneven stress can transfer throughout the body, causing pain in other areas. Myofascial release is performed by stretching small areas or parts of the body at a time, sometimes using only two fingers. The body of each client dictates which way the therapist performs the stretch and can address such complaints as chronic back pain, TMJ, carpal tunnel, strains and headaches.
